They say that things come in threes. On my most recent trip to Coronado to visit my parents, we had a lot of fun, but we also were hit by Murphy’s Law, “Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong.” Then of course, there’s the saying that bad things come in threes.
The rig on Windwalker’s mast failed. We winched dad up the mast to remove the broken lower shroud (a mast wire support), and had a rigger make a new one. After installing it, having winched dad up the mast again, and him descending, I unfortunately noted another broken shroud. So, I was winched up. It was quite an experience, with three little kids jiggling the boat from the stern. On the return from our ocean outing, the backstay also broke (the cable did not fully snap thank heavens!). It was removed and replaced. This could be three things in and of its own right, however…..
My parents had this closet designed by California Closets. It runs the length of the room. Imagine my surprise at 3:30AM when I awoke screaming bloody murder to the sound of their floor to ceiling bookcase collapsing. It was such a commotion, that I thought it was another earthquake (The Easter earthquake of 2010 was scary!).This resulted in 2 of the 3 kids waking up, and insisting upon sleeping in my bed with me. A queen size bed with the three of us jammed in had me tossing and turning the rest of the night with nightmares. The good news is that the collapse encouraged my step-mom to donate two laundry baskets full of books. Dad will be calling them for repairs.
The washing machine also revolted and vomited its contents all over my parents garage floor. Dad did manage to repair that though.
I am hopeful that Murphy can move along now. Nothing to see here. Nothing to see…..
