DIY: Refinishing a wooden sleigh bed.

I put out the call to my friends that I was looking for a Jenny Lind bed for Annabelle, but let’s be honest here, $549 for a twin bed isn’t happening at this household.  What I received was a gorgeous twin Stanley sleigh bed, given freely to me from very sweet friends of mine, and I am very grateful for their generosity.

First the bed was sanded to remove the shiny top-coat:

Sanding the top coat off.

Next all the damage was patched, and after sanding, two coats of Zinsser/Kilz primer were applied:

Primed head and foot boards.

Last, glossy white Rustoleum spray paint was used to achieve a shiny, smooth finish (this took many, many coats):

Sanded, primed, and painted rails.

Our daughter’s room isn’t complete yet.  There are still two other pieces of furniture to be refinished, the walls need to be painted, and the draperies hung.  In addition, we need to find a workable solution for her toys, and make some simple wall shelves for her collections.  The bedding is Laura Ashley Quartet from when I was a teenager!  It has held up nicely after being stored for nearly 10 years.
